Reflect on last
year's data to current data. Are students achieving academic success?

Sylvia, You have a very in depth research plan. I see in your plan you will be following your 4th grade students until their 10th and 11th grade years. Have you considered how you are going to align your data from the TAKS test to STARR test to End of Course exams in high school? I was wondering since the tests may be over similar objectives but they won't be exactly the same. Would your school let you use an achievement test instead of the state testing? And are you using any TELPAS results in your data collection? Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteSylvia your plan is very extensive. Are you using all of the ELL students or just a sampling of students?
ReplyDeleteDid you mean the 11-12 school year in #6? I had a question about TELPAS, in regards to Julie's questions about using the results in your data collection. Do you think TELPAS will give you the data you need, when it is so subjective in scoring? Just curious. I would love to see all our bilingual students intergrated with the remainder of the grade levels. Can't wait to see what your results indicate! Great topic!
ReplyDeleteJulie, using the TELPAS is a great suggestion. It would provide me with data on their language growth. I also need to rephrase my goal because it only entails this year's 4th grade bilingual students.
ReplyDeleteAmy, thank you! That should be 2011-2012 school year. In regard to the TELPAS, I assessed the students in Writing, Speaking, and Listening. Last year, they started taking the Reading portion online. When I went back to check, both results aligned.
Kim, I am only using this year's fourth grade bilingual students.
Thank you all for your great input!
Sylvia, your Action Research is very detailed, congratulations! Thanks for the suggestions too.
ReplyDeleteTELPAS results will certainly help you. As a teacher in a bilingual setting, I am very interested in your research as well. Best of luck!
